How many times do I make a mistake and can’t remove the road cause it’s a main connection? Can’t upgrade Train Stations because they are a main connection and can’t be removed? Can’t add trams or upgrade roads in general because they are a main connection? Too Many times I am afraid, I think I am done with this game until a mod comes out that removes Main Connection or there is an option to turn it off.
Build 5080 improved NOTHING with Main Connection!

Creation inhibiting, mind numbing, frustrating, and useless mechanic.

GAME PLAY RUINED!

Build 5080 and a suggestion about the "main connection" feature /forums/topic/build-5080-and-a-suggestion-about-the-main-connection-feature/ Sun, 01 Feb 2015 23:57:56 +0000 /forums/topic/build-5080-and-a-suggestion-about-the-main-connection-feature/ Continue reading ]]> After playing 6 or 7 hours with the last patch, It seems to me that this release, albeit has improved a bit the fps performance, did almost nothing for the tremendous “end of the month” lag experienced after several years of play.  Besides, I had a pair of CTD during the map creation process too.

I fear that only a totally rethinked simulation system (dismissing the cpu-consuming simulation of every single passenger) will really get rid of the lag in game.

However, I have a suggestion for the Devs. It seems that the “can’t remove main connection” is one of the most hatred feature of this game. Why don’t you replace this feature with an automatic rebuilding (at the end of the month) of a deleted connection by the Ai? At the end of the month the Ai could check if any “main connection” was deleted by the player and, if so, automatically build a new one, maybe charging the cost to the player as penalty for disrupting the old one without building a new one. In my opinion, a much more realistic and less annoying way to solve the problem.

Main connection /forums/topic/main-connection/ Sat, 31 Jan 2015 11:23:39 +0000 /forums/topic/main-connection/ Continue reading ]]> I know the main connection is a real pain, but I begin to conclude on some interesting facts. I might be wrong, but this is a observation.

When demolishing a main connection, you have to build a bypass first. Some times it works, other times not. It is easier to build a smaller bypass on the main connection itself than building a completely new bypass from town to town.

When building a bypass from town to town, the bypass must be build in such way the travel time will not be longer than the main connection, but shorter. This means a faster bypass or shorter bypass. Therefore it is advisable to use a faster country road or the same one from which the main connection is build with.

I think the defining rules for preventing demolishing the main connection is the ability for the game to assign destinations for the sims living in the town. If it use the preferred connection to reach the destination, it will assign  the connection as the “main” connection.

If you build a bypass and the game is able to use the new bypass for it has shorter travel time, the main connection will be nullified. Then you can demolish the original connection.

I also noticed people have problems with a bug where a person is unable to demolish a street segment without it touching any main connections or etc. This is a bit sad. 🙁

I think you have to demolish all the buildings alongside the segment to be able to demolish the segment, but I don’t know if it works.
